Project overview

Designed as a contemporary holiday home for a family, this 128 sq.m residence explores the balance between compact architecture and generous living spaces. The project embraces the principles of indoor– outdoor living, allowing everyday life to extend naturally from the interior towards the garden and terraces through large glazed openings.

Unlike a conventional architectural commission, the project began with an already approved structural concept. A lightweight steel frame system and the building footprint had been predetermined, requiring the architectural design to evolve within carefully defined constraints. Rather than limiting the project, these parameters became the starting point for developing an efficient spatial organization and a coherent architectural identity.

The ground floor is organized around a bright open-plan living area that combines the kitchen, dining and lounge into one continuous space connected directly to the covered terrace and the landscape. The upper floor accommodates the private areas, where the bedrooms open towards generous outdoor spaces overlooking the surrounding greenery.

The architectural language follows the principles of contemporary Mediterranean minimalism. Simple geometric volumes are enriched through a restrained material palette of textured render, natural stone and warm timber soffits, creating depth, texture and a timeless appearance. Large glazed openings strengthen the visual connection with the exterior while filling the interiors with natural light throughout the day.

Constructed with a steel frame, insulated sandwich panels and a layered façade assembly, the house combines rapid construction with high thermal performance and long-term durability. The structural system also enabled generous cantilevers and wide openings that reinforce the relationship between architecture, landscape and everyday living.

The result is a calm and contemporary family retreat where architecture supports a slower rhythm of life, creating comfortable spaces equally suited for gathering, relaxation and enjoying the Mediterranean climate.
